In Her Closet: Solange Knowles

I have had the biggest style crush on Solange Knowles for the longest time. I love BeyoncĂ©  and it can’t be denied that she is pretty stylish too but while everybody had their eyes on BeyoncĂ©, I always had a thing for Solange.

For me it’s about how individual her style is, she puts the craziest prints, colours and designs together and they just seem to magically work. Everybody claims to have their own style but sometimes we all dress so alike that it gets hard to distinguish our individualism from the next person but when it comes to Solange, it’s all hers. She owns it.

Decided to try out this bright coloured outfit Solange rocked a while back in NYC. I had an orange blazer (I have a thing for orange blazers) and a yellow dress so it wasn’t exactly rocket science. I didn’t wanna go all the way and wear my yellow heels as I was going to work and didn’t want to show up looking like a box of sunshine so I toned it down with some nude and leopard print heels I got this month from Fashion Express (they have great shoes!)

Never Too Old For A New Dream

Last month was my birthday and for once I felt super old. I mean I still feel the same but just hearing my age made me cringe. (No, I'm not telling!lol)

I guess what's really bothering me is that I always thought that at this age I would have it all figured out but I don't. I really thought that after university, I would get a super good paying job (probably be famous too...lol), I'd be ready to settle down and life would basically be sorted out. But none of that seems to even be peeking on the horizon. Instead, life has thrown me curveballs and i feel stuck and not moving forward. I actually feel like I'm moving backwards.

Today I came across this quote that just gave me life! "You're never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." This is so true! I'm not done dreaming yet, I don't care if I don't even achieve all the things I set for myself, just having a dream to work towards gives me hope. I will dream even the impossible! I will dream until they carry me out in a box!

Hope you like my denim on denim look which I tried a week ago. I love the denim shirt and I'm sure I've worn it a dozen times since I got it. The print just makes it stand out. You can get it from Jet, it's in the guys section but hey, who cares?

Citi Bank Zambia's Glitzy Opening

Last week I attended the official opening of the Citi Bank Zambia offices at the Elunda round-about in Lusaka. One of our clients, a decor company called Glitter & Sparkle set up the decor for the cocktail and I went through to get some pictures. It was a lovely event with free food, drinks and new friends. This is the part of my job I love! Hope you like the pictures; I think I’m getting better with my photography which is great as I want to incorporate it as part of my professional skills in future!

This post is really because the lovely Tsepo (who I featured in a blog here) said she was looking forward to an update. It warms my heart to know   people look forward to seeing something new on the blog.

I have a battle of deciding how much of my personal life to share on here so I keep it breezy so to say, but the truth is I am a real person and life is not always a bunch of roses. I am going through such a big change in my life at the moment and to be honest it is so hard not to be able to open up about it but I’ve come to learn sometimes it’s better to first work it out with God and yourself and only talk about it when you are in a better frame of mind.

Dinner For Two At Radisson Blu Hotel

This weekend one of my best friends and I went to dinner at the gorgeous Radisson Blu Hotel. I had entered a competition on Valentine’s Day which asked us to show a visual interpretation of what love is. I will show you what I entered at the end of this blog but the great news is that I won a dinner for two, a bottle of wine and roses at the gorgeous Hotel.

As Valentine’s day was in the middle of the week we could not make it but asked for the reservation to be moved to the weekend which was agreed but when we got there, nobody seemed to know about the competition and this was so annoying because we had to explain to the manager why we were there. After a few calls it was sorted and we go a buffet dinner and a bottle of wine but no roses. Bleh.

We were a little upset by the whole confusion but we tried to enjoy our dinner and we ate every single thing on the buffet! hahaha. Don't ask me about what happened the next day because yes, I had a running tummy! Didn’t really take many pictures while we ate though.
Before you ask, I hope I mentioned that my boyfriend works in another part of the country and we are currently in a long distance relationship. I would have loved to share this dinner with him but he wasn't here so the next best thing was this gorgeous girl who is one of the loveliest people in the world and has been my friend for years and years!

We went out dancing later, it was fun. I love to dance but to be honest I am getting a little tired of the club scene! I never thought I'd say that but it's true. I get tired early and when they play the same music over and over again, I get irritated. I'm  also sick of all the guys who think they are ballers and are used to women sleeping with them after a few drinks walking up to me and making advances. It's getting old.

My picture submission for the valentine’s competition was a picture me and my boyfriend took on a weekend get-away in Lower Zambezi. You can read about it here and see more amazing pictures. My description of love was:

"Love is when two people with individual aspirations and dreams decide to take a step in the same direction, together."

Hope you like my outfit! I finally got wet-look leggings from Mr. Price. This is actually my second pair, got myself a pair on my birthday but lost them as I was travelling and never got to wear them :( The shirt is from Mudd Jeans and I just love it, so classy! And of course my favourite pair of yellow heels which never fail to add pizzaz to any of my outfits. Thank you for reading! Follow me on instagram and twitter @ghetogal

PS: I'm having g a huge problem commenting on other bloggers blogs or replying to comments. Anybody know how I can sort this out? It seems to be a problem many bloggers here are facing!

That Girl Got Afro-Funk : Featuring Tsepo Musuwa

One of the most important lessons that my father ever taught me was never to disdain those who were more successful than I was at something but rather to be inspired by them and to learn from their success. This has been such a fundamental principle in my life and because of this I have been able to better myself in many ways!

I am inspired everyday by talented people from all walks of life that are making a mark, be it little or great. This philosophy has come in handy even when it comes to my love for fashion; there are so many people who have turned fashion into an inspiring art.

Because of this I decided to do a little style crush section that I'm going to call "That Girl Got Afro-Funk" and this will feature fashionistas that I come across everyday whose style I love.

I joined instagram a few months ago and I'll be honest, one thing I love about it is I can spy on so many fashionistas and see how they put their looks together! I have quite a few favourites on instagram but some really stand out!

The first girl I'm featuring is Tsepo Musuwa. She a Zambian girl living in UK and is super sweet. Her sense of fashion is insane and I stalk her instagram a lot! Unfortunately she does not have a blog or tumbler but I hope she gets one soon! Follow her on instagram @tsepo

TSEPO MUSUWA

Isn’t she GORGEOUS?!! I can’t even decide which outfit I love the most! You can follow Tsepo on twitter too.  Check out my personal instagram @ghetogal if you haven’t already!

February Bliss

Happy February! February is a big deal to me because it's my birth month so yeah, I'm biased when I say February is the best month of the year!

I spent my birthday at my best friend's dad memorial. To be honest, at first I was so depressed when I heard the memorial would be on my birthday! I had spent last year at the funeral and although this occasion was very important to me I guess the natural person in me wanted to be out partying or something this time around especially that it was on a Saturday.

However on the actual day I was so glad I went. The service was encouraging and I felt so touched to see how the family all came together to remember someone so special who had added something priceless to their lives. And most importantly I remembered that death is something we will all face, and we must reflect on whether how we are living our lives each day is going to be enough for us to say “I did not live in vain." at the end of it all.

I am so thankful to all who made my day special despite the circumstances. Here are a few pictures to sum up my weekend but I hope to do a proper birthday post as we will celebrate later!

Was so chuft when the special person in my life travelled miles in order to be there during my birthday week and though we didn't spend the actual day together, this meant a lot to me. Being in a long distance relationship is really challenging but we are both trying to make it work

So I finally got the weave out and for once decided to be with my own hair. As you can see my hair needs a retouch lol but anyway I had fun putting it up in a bun as being weaved and braided so often seems to have given it some length. I have nothing against those who go natural but I just really find it easier to be in a weave or braid my hair and I like being able to look different according to what hairstyle I chose to do! So whether it real or weave I got no issues, so long as you feel lovely!

Who doesn't love to be spoilt on their special day? I certainly do! These were some of my favourite gifts. My best friend got me this gorgeous knotted neon chain necklace I've been wanting for ages, this really touched me as even though she was grieving she still took time out to get me a thoughtful gift. A few days before my birthday I came home to a gold box from my boyfriend. He got me Pacco Robanne's Lady Million which is a scent I have been obsessing about on my trips to the mall fooling around with all those testers...lol...And my sister got me a leopard print shirt which I love as this is most definitely one of my favourite prints.

Musings of an Inconsistent Blogger

Let me start by saying I don't deserve your attention at all. I could say a thousand apologies  for being such a terrible blogger but I'd rather show you by a bunch of pictures that I hope will make up for my long hiatus.

Thank you to my lovely new followers, I promise to visit your blogs soon and it is the greatest flattery to know that you would be interested in reading my unimportant rumblings. I hope the New Year is treating you well and that you have not yet given up on all those resolutions you so passionately made. Hope you enjoy my little summary of my 2012!

Last year going short with my hair was one of the best things I tried. I felt like the third world version of Halle Berry.lol. Below are two looks I especially loved in my short hair.

The first look was centred on my oversized orange blazer which I got in Mr. Price. I have a thing for orange blazers apparently as I now have three in my closet!

My second favourite look in short hair was this mint blouse I styled over white skinnies. I threw over a red sling bag which I thought was extra cute:) plus a pair of floral wedges I got in a sale in Mr. Price (I love Mr. Price!)

I don't think I'm the only one who was drooling last year over Beyonce's bun and fringe! It's so stylish and sweet! I have to admit my attempt to pull it off was a little bit off the mark but non the less I still liked it. Wearing a flowery shirt dress I got while thrifting. I'm not really this kind of dress girl but I think I still looked decent.

And to sum up my 2012 misadventures I must say I partied quite a bit! One of the highlight parties last year was the R&G underground themed party. I went with my two housemates at the time who have since moved out so it's quiet a good memory and I bumped into my lovely friend Mkhudzo. I wore aztec printed leggings, one of my favourite prints at the moment. I absolutely love printed pants!

Notice how the little red bag featured in almost all my outfits?! lol. Thank you for reading!
